Ooh! Thank you! I'm not familiar with that group. I'll look it up.
I was supposed to make spats a couple of years ago when I showed at Magic, but I ran out of time. My though was to make them look more like part of the shoe instead of something just laying on top. I'm pleased, but it's a pain in the ass to bind that little curve in the back!
Ha! I'm surprised drag-o-licious hasn't accused me of that on my sale post. I'm sure he thinks she invented spats! When I saw she opened that shop recently I thought damn it! Now people will think I "copied"! All they have to do is look at my listing dates!

Hi, I just found your blog from corsetmakers, and I've never seen or heard of 'spats' before! The closest I've come across were boot-tops, which you get in the theatrical community. How on earth do you set about getting or making a pattern for these, and does it depend on the shoe?
(BTW I have previously made leather lace up boot-tops/spats, but these were specifically designed around a set of hiking boots and seem to be a bit floppy)

Hello,
shoe height does make a difference,(flat vs heel), other wise it's pretty much like doing a pattern for a boot top, just give it the shape you desire!
